sailed. At 5.30 the S.S. “Scawby” secured alongside and coaling commenced immediately. Coaling finished at 11 o/c pm.
May 15th – At Mudros. Today was spent in overhauling guns, machinery, refitting etc, etc. At 3 o/c pm the Fleet supply ship “Baron Ardrossan” with ammunition & stores, secured alongside, casting off again at 6 o/c pm.
May 16th – At Mudros. The usual Sunday’s routine was observed to-day. The work in the engine room department, and the overhauling of the 12” guns & hydraulics, however, continuing.
May 17th – At Mudros. Today was passed much the same as yesterday.
At Mudros. At 4.45 am we weighed and in company with the French battleship “Charlemagne” and the Russian cruiser “Askold” proceeded North towards the Dardanelles. Off Helles Point the French & Russian ships parted company and we proceeded to Gaba Tepe to relieve the “Prince of Wales” anchoring there at 12 noon. Our Commander left the ship for passage to Malta by the “Prince of Wales” shortly after 1.30 pm & at 2.30 the “Prince of Wales” weighed & proceeded, a signal being sent from “Vengeance” to our late commander wishing him luck etc, to which he replied “Thank you very much. God bless you all”.
May 19th – At Gaba Tepe. At 4.30 am we weighed and after maneuvering to seaward, approached the shore and opened fire with 6” on the enemy in front of the Colonials. Firing ceased at 7.30 am and at 8 o/c we anchored.
May 14th cont – Coal received today 480 tons
