Dear Mother Father and Doreen
Well you will be surprised to see me writing on this paper no doubt. I am very thankful to say that I am well and was not hurt. It is however with the deepest regret that I have to tell you that Paddy Allen was drowned before I could get to him—my air gunner Slowey was saved with me, an altogether a very tragic affair.
I am glad to say I am with a grand crowd of fellow officers one or two whom I knew in England, no one however who you know.
Please give Mr & Mrs Barnard my regards and tell Barbara I hope she will forgive my not keeping the date. Ask her to write me. I haven't her address. Parcels:—1 every 3 months that is clothing I want: — 1 Blanket—Shirts—Collars—Socks—Gloves—find out from Mrs Hobbs what else you are allowed to send—1 small case if possible. All my love to you all—see you soon
John.
