May [rest of the date cut off by the censor]
Right now I [am] just about ready to hang up my "sea legs" and put my land stomach back in place. I'm writing this letter on board our floating palace and meanwhile, outside, the cold north wind is blowing and the deep azure waves are chopping incessantly. They say, "that the worst comes to an end" -- all I can say to that is; "thank gosh it's true." I can't say when we left, but I can say, it was too long ago for my liking -- Too, too long ago.
I took the " mariner's decease" (which they never get) shortly after we got out on the high seas, and it's no fun. You feel terrible -- not sick exactly but have a headache and can't eat.
