August 25th 1914 Tuesday
The Crown-prince has been awarded the Iron Cross. Last night the Crown-princess addressed the crowd from the Palace balcony—telling them to be brave and pray for the success of the German arms. She closed her speech with the words:—
“[illegible German script]”
The crowd at once dispersed cheering and singing
“[illegible German script]”.
The popular Berlin theatrical song up to a few weeks ago, had been:
“[illegible German script]”
It is reported than Namur has fallen into the Hands of the Germans. I hope no British troops were in Namur.
Saw nothing of C this evening. She is always with Margaret. I wonder if she really does care for me... I so often doubt it.
