Thursday July 30th 1914
I drove with Dorothy to the British Consulate-General, and interviewed Mr. Charlton. She was given a passport, but I didn’t think it necessary to have one. We went to Wertheim and bought a few things. I bought C. a small bottle of Sweet-Pea perfume, which is my favourite perfume.
In the afternoon, we all went to the Wannsee and took a motor-boat. Spent a glorious afternoon. I sat with C. most of the time and we had delightful talks. I took a great number of snapshots—I do hope they will turn out well.
When we returned whom should we see but Uncle Fritz. He had been cruising about on the Baltic as a military attaché to a flagship at Christiania. He had been called back very suddenly—he told me that things at present looked very serious between Austria and Russia,
