23rd March 1918
Miss Marion Simpson.
Dear Marion.
Reply to your most welcome letter and parcel, received a few days ago. The day on which your mail arrived here I was sick in bed with the trench fever. But when [sic] I heard our mail man calling my name out. And then to my surprise he gave me a parcel and letter. I couldn't think for a moment who they were from. Until I noticed Hamilton on the stamp. And when I read your letter through and through I forgot for the present that I was sick at all. I am pleased to let you know I am quite well again. And the weather we had here for over a month has been extra fine, nearly as nice as summer weather.
Seeing by your letter you back home are having a severe winter. I hope it won't last much longer with you. This winter has been the best out of three over here.
I hope I will spend next winter back in dear old Canada.
