Meanwhile I have seen and heard good things. The enclosed programme was a tonic to me. It was wonderful. -- I returned to London expecting to see one of Noel Coward's new plays. He has just opened two -- I enquired for seats. Sold out for the entire season -- Went round one evening on the chance and picked up the one ticket -- turned back and so saw "Present Laughter". I wanted to see him act. I met him at the Arts and Letters Club a couple of years ago. Well the play was the usual successful Noel Coward froth and good entertainment but I was completely disappointed in his ability as an actor. He was quite weak. Has a very quiet (small voice) and speaks like an express train, and bounces about.
The play was about himself -- The successful actor whom everyone admires and falls in love with from which I gathered that he was really an egotistical exhibitionist who is in love with himself. So much for success!
