May 19th cont - During the stay of the ship at Gaba Tepe all our boats, and boats crews, are employed conveying the wounded from the Hospital base on shore to the Hospital Ship
At 9.30 we again weighed and shortly after 12 noon opened fire with 12” on enemy’s artillery. During this action our ship’s cat Minnie, was again safely delivered of 4 kittens. This is the 3rd occasion since the commencement of the war. At 2.30 pm we anchored. Shortly before nightfall we again weighed and a desultory fire was kept up till 12 midnight.
May 20th – At Gaba Tepe. Today was passed much the same as yesterday. The “Canopus” & “Vengeance” keeping up a steady & deliberate fire which, however, considerably increased towards nightfall. All to-day’s firing being spotted by a captive balloon of the Parseval Seigsfeld type carried on board the SS “Maniga”
May 21st – At 5 o/c pm Lt Col Heriot D.S.O. R.M.L.I. left the ship on promotion, and appointment to the Royal Naval Division ashore
At Gaba Tepe. During the forenoon a number of troopships arrived with reinforcements and at 2.30 pm a number of Torpedo Boat Destroyers commenced transferring the troops from the transport to the shore. “Vengeance” meanwhile covering the landing by 6” shell fire. As each TBD, laden with troops, passed they loudly cheered. By 5 o/c pm all the reinforcements were safely ashore.
May 22nd – At Gaba Tepe. Desultory firing against the enemy who were attacking the Colonials still, was carried on from our 6” guns, till, at 11.15 am the Destroyer “Colne” reported sighting a hostile submarine. All ships including, transports, supply ships, Hospital ships, trawlers etc etc immediately
