August 14th 1914. Friday
The Poles are taking Germany’s part. All Polish regiments sent to Siberia.
England and France declare war on Austria.
The German press accuses England of having been the cause of all this needless bloodshed.
“England could have kept the peace of Europe by remaining neutral, but declared war on Germany for her own interests and for no just reasons.”
Went with C to the American Embassy for her passport. It was so crowded that we were obliged to sit on the stairs. C was very gay and we had such a good time. She is a darling—such an angel!
