Personal Statement About Topic
My interest in Sheila Watson stems partly from an admiration for her literary achievements and partly from regional affiliation: she grew up in New Westminster and spent her final years in Nanaimo, British Columbia, near where I was raised and worked for several years. I am currently writing an article about Watson's depiction of her upbringing at the BC Provincial Hospital for the Insane in her short stories of the 1950s.
