Notes
- Hrsel was a member of the camp underground resistance movement
- A testimony from Dr. Jan Cespiva directly concerns this inmate. It was published in Prague in 1964 and later quoted in Christian Bernadac La Libération des camps racontée par ceux qui l’ont vécue (Paris, France-Empire, 2005) p. 185-186.
- Explaining the workings of the sabotage rings in the subcamp of Dora. [translation from French: In addition, our group had the task of maintaining a liaison with Buchenwald. I had a reliable man in Buchenwald, comrade Emil Hrsel; he also owned a Précis de médecine pratique which contained a code. I would attach messages to the left forearm of bodies with a paper band (the crematorium at Dora having been finished only at the end of 1944, transports were being sent to Buchenwald). The antifascist inmates working at the crematorium in Buchenwald were told to inform Emil Hrsel immediately whenever a body arrived who wore a bandage on his left forearm. Immediately Hrsel would take the information and transmit it to the international committee in Buchenwald]
