Dear All, Once again here I am or should I say just my hand writing, owing to the shortage of writing material I'm afraid I can only write to you so please pass around to relatives. I'm sure they will understand why I can't write them individually as must write other friends. Tell them to keep writing though as, as I said before mail is at the one thing that keeps us going. I have just been through my mail book and here is a brief answer to your queries—cigarettes none received so far please send regularly weekly as not all arrive. Battle Dress trousers, if others sent don't worry am OK as have been issued with [a] pair [of] Red Cross khaki trousers. Please send blanket if impossible please ask Red Cross to send some out here immediately as we have none here only two supplied by Germans. Please send “Li Lo” air mattress. Some of the boys have them. Great advantage soft and warm to lie on. A sleeping bag also very useful. Please convey my sympathies with Ida Arthur Auntie Anne & Mr Hentie's [?] niece. Yes please send books but choose some as if left to newsagent trash is usually sent. Please thank Grandma for knitting cardigan & scarf they will be most welcome also all friends for cigarettes. Kind regards to Mr & Mrs Lawton.
Love
John
