My dearest Bertie,
Your letter gave me great joy: I am thankful you have John and Kate with you. Mobilisation just started – and it feels impossible to write a word about anything. I signed for a job in Bristol today, though can only keep at it until the bombs stop the bus from running. There is so much to say and it is so impossible to say any of it –
Much love to you and Peter; and John and Kate; it feels impossible that anybody will survive much less
Colette.
