Dearest Bertie,
The Finns are wonderful the way the clean up everything, all the Bolshevik mess and destruction. All the windows get boarded up almost as soon as they’ve been smashed.… During the air raids on Turku, the sale of pastries went up 100% because everybody took pastries into the shelters! We still only get hot water twice a month though I think we shall now get a bath once a week: Sweden is in just the same state of coallessness: any coal there goes to the factories. …
