May 27th 1914 Tuesday
Gave C. back her comb, but kept a locket. How wicked of me! but there is no help for it. I just had to have it.
Began to think I wasn’t wanted – so many officers in uniform (so important) and my confounded age you know!
Went shopping with mother and C.
Took tender farewell of both and left by the 1.25 p.m. from the Zoo.
Thought of C. all the way – her age – my confounded age! – her Jack etc. but I have not been unsuccessful. Have got her locket – she doesn’t know it.
