Article on J.W. Bengough from The Theatre (Sydney, Australia), 1 June 1909
Description
Bengough toured Australia and New Zealand from May to October 1909, entertaining crowds with humourous stories and recitations, and executing "instant" cartoons of well-known individuals, as is evident in this article from TheTheatre. The tour, which also included singers and a pianist, was well-received: "Nothing quite like the artist's entertainment has been seen here before, and with the charm of novelty it possesses a singularly pleasing quality derived from Bengough's sunny good-natured personality." (newspaper clipping from The Star, 5 May 1909). This article, along with numerous news clippings and programs, is included in the tour scrapbook in the Bengough fonds at McMaster.
